NCP orders Euro 5 Citaros for Heathrow

SPECIALIST aviation transport provider NCP Interline has ordered ten Euro 5 Mercedes-Benz Citaros for operation at Heathrow Airport. These are thought to be the first Euro 5 buses ordered by a British company - a full four years ahead of the 2010 deadline.

Tony Douglas, CEO of Heathrow, says: "BAA Heathrow encourages our suppliers to be extremely conscious of our environmental responsibilities and commitments. NCP’s decision to purchase Euro 5 rather than Euro 4 engines, meeting tighter new emissions legislation well ahead of the 2010 deadline, clearly sets them as an industry leader."

The Citaros will be the first Euro 5 buses in use at Heathrow, and are also expected to be the first production Euro 5 buses in Britain when they enter service later this year. The buses will be used exclusively for moving international transfer passengers between the terminals.

Go-Ahead’s Oxford Bus Company has also ordered Euro 5 Citaros, the first for a scheduled bus operation. It is taking 11, to be delivered before the end of this year.
