Go-Ahead expands with Anglian purchase

Article Image

Go-Ahead has expanded in eastern England with the acquisition of Anglian Buses of Beccles, Suffolk. Anglian operates 71 buses in an area which includes Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and  Ipswich. The business has two depots, in Beccles and Rackheath, and 133 staff including 100 bus drivers. It operates a modern fleet made up mainly of Scanias and Optares. The company was the first operator of a Wrightbus StreetLite midibus.

Anglian was established in 1981 by David and Christine Pursey, both of whom will retire. Andrew Pursey will stay with the business and becomes managing director. The company name and brand will continue.

David Brown, group chief executive of Go-Ahead, says: “Anglian Buses fits well with our strategy of acquiring well-managed businesses which have the potential for growth and further development. We look forward to building on the success already achieved by the Pursey family and the Anglian Bus team.”

Go-Ahead already has an operation in the region, Konectbus, purchased in March 2010 and operating 45 vehicles from a base in Dereham in Norfolk.
