Green light for Leeds Trolleybuses

Plans for a Trolleybus system in Leeds have been approved by the Department for Transport with ministers committing to a funding package of around £235million. The scheme, similar to those in Athens and Lyon, would see buses powered by overhead electric cables.

The last trolleybuses ran in the UK more than 40 years ago in neighbouring Bradford.

Transport minister Sadiq Khan says: “An efficient and reliable transport system is critical to any local community. This is why we’re investing significant amounts of money in infrastructure in towns and cities across the country.”
