New Bluetooth device for tachograph data

Tachodisc has added to its digital tachograph products range with the launch of the new Digi-Down Blue. Digi-Down Blue features the same functionalities as the Digi-Down Plus with the addition of a Bluetooth facility.

“The Digi-Down Blue has been designed to address the issues of drivers who work remotely or who find it difficult to get their VU and driver card data back to base,” says Karen Crispe, Tachodisc director. “In many cases the downloading of data is carried out near to the transport office, yet it is still not convenient to go into the office to save the data onto a PC -  the office could be locked, located in a restricted area or some distance away from where the downloading actually takes place. The Digi-Down Blue utilises the latest in Bluetooth technology to provide a simple and cost effective solution to these issues.”

Similar to other combined VU and card downloading devices, the Digi-Down Blue is first used to download the digital tachograph data – plugged into the front of the VU or with a driver card inserted into the side of the unit.  After downloading has been completed on one or more vehicles or cards, the Digi-Down Blue is ready to transmit data to wherever it is needed. 

The hand-held device can be configured to transmit VU and card data in one of two ways to the transport office. The first is remotely via a compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone, which enables downloaded data to be sent to wherever it is needed without having to make any physical connection to other equipment. This is ideal for a vehicle that stays away from the base for extended periods or in circumstances where the vehicle’s base is remote from the depot.

The second is by using the device in conjunction with a Digi-Down Base Box. This wall-mountable box is positioned near to where tachograph downloading takes place, and is then connected by a standard network cable to a suitable office computer (up to 1km). Once set up, the Digi-Down Base scans continuously for Digi-Down Blue units that have data ready to be uploaded, for example when the Bluetooth button has been pressed on the hand-held device. When an acceptable Digi-Down Blue is recognised with data ready to upload, that data is collected automatically. After uploading, the data remains on the memory card in the Digi-Down Blue but is marked to show that this data has been collected.

Both transmission options will send the downloaded data to a nominated PC network or directly into a compatible analysis software programme where the data will automatically be recognised.

Prices for the Digi-Down Blue start at £295 plus VAT and  the Digi-Down Base Box starts at £175 plus VAT.
