VDO free remote downloading equipment

The first twenty customers to purchase VDO’s new Digital Tachograph 1.3A will receive the latest remote download device free of charge and the device will also be installed and calibrated for free.

Kevin Green, fleet sales manager, explains the reasoning behind this offer: “We made a commercial decision to offer this promotion so that customers could get a feel for the product and see the advantages for themselves.

“It is important for operators to appreciate that the data management products now available have been designed with a lot of thought to making life as easy as possible for collecting, archiving and maintaining tachograph and driver card data.”

Data downloading allows for the secure downloading of driver card data by wireless and the transmitting of encrypted data to the office via WLAN or GPRS technology.

The download process, which is controlled from the office computer so that the company card does not need to be inserted into the tachograph unit, is also very quick, helping to keep running costs to a minimum.

VDO has two types of remote downloading technology that cater for both long- and short-range data downloading.
Wide Range transfers data to the VDO download server via a mobile wireless network (GPRS).

The driver card and mass memory data can then be directly downloaded and transmitted to the data archive at any time and from anywhere across Europe.

VDO also produces a Short Range version which functions when the vehicle is located in a defined area of an operator’s site, for instance in the company yard, transmitting system data to the office computer via a local wireless network (WLAN). With the Short Range  option, there is no fee for data transfer as it takes place via the company’s network.
