Hybrids confirmed in latest TfL tenders

Article Image

In line with its plans to switch to hybrid buses, Transport for London has awarded its first tender based on their use – but apparently requiring only five buses. The route is one in South London which is currently operated by London Central with six Wrightbus Electrocity hybrids, running alongside conventional diesels. London Central has retained the contract, but with “11 new and existing hybrid single-deckers” from January.

Elsewhere, First loses three routes with a peak vehicle requirement of 19 buses. Two have gone to CT Plus, which will require 15 new buses; the third has gone to East London, and will require four new double-deckers. However East London has lost more than it has gained, with an 11-bus route moving to Arriva London North, and a nine-vehicle operation going to Go-Ahead’s Docklands Buses business, a net loss of 16 vehicles.

Go-Ahead’s London General loses two routes, one of which is a significant change, where Arriva London South will take over and using 30 new double-deck buses. It has also lost an eight-bus route to Travel London, but in return gained a nine-vehicle service from Travel London – giving the Dutch-owned business a net gain of one bus.
