Leeds promotes new trolleybus plans

A SERIES of exhibitions to promote Leeds’ proposed trolleybus system, billed as New Generation Transport, is being organised by Metro, the West Yorkshire PTE, and Leeds city council. The first took place last week. By mid July the exhibition will have been staged at six locations for a total of 18 days.

A survey carried out by Steer Davies Gleave at the end of last year showed a positive response to the NGT plans. The promoters plan to submit a bid to the Department of Transport for government funding this autumn. If approved, services could be operating in 2015. So far the government’s Yorkshire and Humber Regional Transport Board has approved funding of almost £250million for the project.
