Wright consults staff over 235 redundancies

Article Image

THE Wright Group is considering redundancies which could lead to the loss of up to a quarter of the staff employed at Ballymena. The company, which has today begun a 90-day consultation with staff about the possibility of 235 redundancies, says that it will be using this consultation period to actively explore ways in which it can reduce the impact of this decision and the overall number of redundancies.

In a statement released today, it says that the decision has been taken in response to a slowdown in market requirements in the face of the current global economic climate.

“This difficult decision has been taken to safeguard the long term future of The Wright Group,
" says Wright Group managing director Mark Nodder. "By acting now, we hope that the company will be able to weather the current economic downturn and emerge stronger for the future

“Our employees have made us a local and international success and, in consultation with them, every possible provision will be made to minimise the impact on them and their families.

“We will continue to invest in the future of The Wright Group through R&D and our apprentice scheme to manage through this global crisis and to position us for rapid, strong growth when conditions improve”.

The Wright Group currently employs 928 people at Ballymena and earlier this month announced an £11million order from Arriva for 57 Gemini 2 DL double-decks.
