First links with MMU on school safety

FIRSTGROUP is working with Manchester Metropolitan University to promote the safety of children travelling on school buses. MMU has pioneered child protection training for schools and colleges across the UK, and is now targeting the short course at the tourism, hospitality, leisure and transport industries.

The course has been developed to include an NVQ module to ensure drivers have the most up-to-date information on child safety and advice on dealing with children and young adults.

Says FirstGroup chief executive Moir Lockhead: “Yellow school buses are a safe and secure means of transporting our young people to and from school. By joining forces with MMU to provide such an important course for our staff, we are increasing the safety of our young passengers even further.”
