New livery and new Volvos for Blackpool New livery and new Volvos for Blackpool
Blackpool Transport has taken delivery of nine Volvo B7RLEs with Plaxton Centro bodies, the council-owned company’s first new Volvos since a batch of Olympians in 1994. New purchases in recent years have been Optare Solos and Dennis Tridents. The Volvo’s are in the company’s new black and yellow livery, and are being used on the trunk service between Blackpool and Fleetwood.

“The key for us was the reliability that Volvo provides, we needed vehicles that weren’t going to let us down, plus Volvo offer excellent back up and support”, says Blackpool Transport managing director Trevor Roberts.

The buses are a mixture of Euro 4 and Euro 5 models with 290bhp D7E 7.1-litre engines and ZF six-speed automatic gearboxes. They are 45-seaters with room for 25 standees.

“We carry a large number of senior citizens on a daily basis and with the DDA restrictions also being phased in, we considered this order a necessary investment to ensure that the high safety standards we have established are continually maintained,” Roberts adds.
